Janaki Women Awareness Society (JWAS) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization established by a group of women social workers in 1993. The formation of a democratic government in Nepal provided an opportunity and space for the women social workers who were extremely concerened about the social evils of child marriage, reproductive health and HIV/AIDS, the dowry system, domestic violence, people affected by disabilities, discrimination against women, youth and marginalized people and everyone affected by conflict. In order to address some of these situations and to attempt to improve people’s lives, this group of women social workers founded JWAS.

Mission: To organize targeted groups of women, children and youth especially in marginalized communities, to work against the Caste system and gender inequality in order to help them improve their health and economic status.
