Janaki Women Awareness Society is launching a second iteration of their project, Share the Learning: Scale the Impact, where they will partner young girls with journalists and civil society leaders to share knowledge, gain perspective and create solutions to large problems facing their communities.

In the first iteration, JWAS enrolled eight young girls participating in social activism into the program along with six journalists and six civil society leaders. The program was highly successful, and the organization is now aiming to repeat this process with a new cohort utilizing the lessons learned from their first cohort.

After selecting eight motivated budding activists, along with journalists who focus on women and girls’ rights, and civil society leaders focused on marginalized women, the group will conduct a number of meetings with the purpose of sharing knowledge. They will reflect on relevant issues, work, experiences, achievements, and explore the link  between the project, its impact, and future takeaways.

The aim of the project is to develop the girls’ perspectives and empower them to use their voices while learning from accomplished leaders. They will be discussing issues of sexual and reproductive health, gender based violence and COVID-19 response. JWAS believes that these girls have the potential to inspire hundreds of other girls to improve their quality of life. The cohort will break out into small groups, each working on a project that will convene with the presentation of a solution to one of these key issues.

JWAS also plans to promote this effort in the media in order to inspire others and gain support for the program. They will produce a short documentary and encourage the journalists each to write an article on their experience for their respective media outlets. This method was highly successful in the first cohort, and the first documentary can be accessed here.

Overall, this project will empower a group of young girls to speak up against the challenges faced by women in society, and inspire others to do the same.
